First Citizens Provides Financial Support for Educational Organizations

01/11/2021

MANSFIELD, PA (January 2021) Of all the changes that came about during the pandemic, one of the biggest was how students across the country received their education. Now more than ever, the educational system needs extra support so they can pursue their mission — build a brighter future. So, with that spirit in mind, First Citizens Community Bank donated $325,000 to 48 educational enrichment programs across the state of Pennsylvania through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

For many years, the Bank has supported the EITC program, which provides low-income children and families much-needed tuition assistance, and also funds innovative programs in the classroom and after school. Amongst the recipients are scholarship opportunities, theatre education, a traveling math lab, a traveling agricultural science lab, counseling and addiction prevention for children, classroom grants for teachers, and more.

“Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of our communities to support tomorrow's leaders through educational opportunities,” noted Randall E. Black, President and CEO. “The EITC program allows us to invest in programs that give back and empower children. That’s as good as it gets.”

In addition to financial support, First Citizens encourages its employees to volunteer for the causes they care about. Many employees volunteer at their local food banks, homeless shelters, or Relay for Life events. Bank employees also regularly participate in the First Citizens “Casual for a Cause” program, donating from their own pockets to help local families in need when medical bills are piling up or one of their neighbor's faces tragedy.

A donation of $100,000 of the EITC funding was allocated to BLaST Intermediate Unit 17, an educational service agency that assists school districts in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga Counties. The $100,000 donation will be distributed amongst twelve school districts, with a portion going to support the Everfi Online Financial Program, which First Citizens has sponsored for eleven years.
