On August 16, 2014 First Citizens Community Bank "SAFE" students Devon Russell and Cierra Pipher, will be holding a 5K Run/Walk to promote financial literacy in their community. The "SAFE" program (Student Ambassadors for Financial Education) is a program created by First Citizens Community Bank to promote financial literacy in our schools and communities. As a project for this program Northeast Bradford High School ambassadors Devon and Cierra were looking for ways to help their community with a financial challenge and promote financial literacy at the same time.

Both girls identified a financial challenge that the community faced which was the renovation of North Orwell Hall. This renovation project is all about the future of the community but at the same time they also realized what a difficult task it would be for the community to earn, save and budget money for this large endeavor.

All funds raised by this 5K event will be used to support the renovation of North Orwell Hall to help create a much needed facility for community functions of all kinds to be held.

The 5K course has been laid out at Bonin Lake (located behind Bonin's Rolerena in Rome, PA), and all along the way runners will be encouraged to keep going toward the "finish line" while they encounter financial literacy tips on how to save, invest and keep going toward a financially sound "finish line" for their own future.

So put on your running shoes and come on out on August 16th, to Bonin Lake in Rome, PA to support this event and support this community. Oh, and be sure to save your appetite for some delicious baked goodies that will be available the same day! There will be a registration from 7:30-8:00 a.m. or you can pre-register by sending in the attached pre-registration form or visiting Facebook page "SAFE Program 5K for North Orwell Hall". The race begins at 9:00 am. Each pre-registrant will receive a t-shirt and water bottle with their registration fee. A limited number of t-shirts and water bottles will be available for purchase the day of the event. Pre-registration deadline is Monday, August 4, 2014.
