First Citizens Announces 2013-2014 MU Scholarship Recipients


MANSFIELD, PA (October 2013)… First Citizens Community Bank has announced the recipients of the First Citizens Community Bank Scholarship to Mansfield University for the 2013 – 2014 academic year.


Elisabeth Andrews, a Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting, and a minor in Spanish, was the recipient of the student scholarship. Elisabeth works at the Southern Tier Pregnancy Resource Center, and previously waitressed at the Classic Café. She volunteered with Lifetree Café in Horseheads, and on several occasions oversaw multicultural youth teams while with Youth With a Mission in South Africa. Elisabeth earned the Outstanding Major in Business & Economics Department award in the spring of 2012 and 2013. She resides in Gillett with her parents, Jeanne and Gary.


Jessica Bowne of Blossburg was awarded the employee (dependent) scholarship. Jessica is majoring in Business, with a concentration in Accounting. Jessica recently completed a seven month internship in First Citizens Marketing Department, and currently works as a part-time CSR in Blossburg. She volunteers with the Junior Mountie Basketball program at Mansfield University, which teaches kids in grades K-8 the basics of basketball under the direction of MU students.


Two $1,000 scholarships are funded annually by First Citizens Community Bank for attendance at Mansfield University. One scholarship is awarded to a Mansfield University student who resides within our market. Preference is given to students who are customers of First Citizens, or whose family members are customers. The second scholarship is awarded to a First Citizens employee, local board member, or a dependent of an employee or local board member.


Both scholarships require academic excellence and community service. The Mansfield University Foundation administers the scholarship selection and awards. Both scholarships are available to sophomore, junior and senior college students, and to be eligible, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and have 20 hours of community or school service. Preference is given to full-time students, but part-time students are considered.
